    DC FotoWeek 2010

    This week I decided to enter several of my favorite images into the DC FotoWeek 2010 competition!  I cannot tell you how nervous, excited, anxious and everything else I am to enter.  Currently, I have only entered four images into three separate categories but I am certain I will enter several more as the weeks progress.

    Although the majority of the competition categories are judged by a panel of professional photographers, there is one category that accepts votes from the public.  The People’s Choice Award is granted to the image that receives the most votes.  It would be a great honor to receive your vote for any of my photographs!  Here is how you do it:

    • Please click the following link ( http://www.fotoweekdcawards.org/bin/Rate ) to travel to the People’s Choice voting section.
    • Search for the photographs with my name underneath ( McArthur Newell )
    • There is no search bar, only page numbers so you will have to find which page my photographs are placed.  Currently, they are all on the first page.
    • You must enter your email address to vote and a confirmation will be sent to that address – that’s how the system knows it’s valid.
    • All done!

    Please keep in mind a few things:

    • You can only vote once.
    • If you vote twice or more, only your latest vote will count.
    • Voting will last until September 20, 2010.

    I really appreciate your time and consideration in voting for my work!  At most, I hope to be considered an artist not only a photographer.  I cannot express how much of a pleasure it is to work with so many new and old friends in various photo sessions.  My work in photography has only begun.  I can’t wait to see what tomorrow will bring!

    Sculpture Garden

    Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of working with two models and a makeup artist next to the National Mall.  Nadia Christian is a regular fashion model in the Washington DC metropolitan area.  We met during a show held in a foreign embassy last year.  I wanted to work with her for sometime but our schedules were always conflicting.  Luckily the time finally came when both our schedules were open. I met Julia Sosnovskaya online.  After looking at her portfolio, I knew her look was perfect for my style of photography.  Julia is fairly new to the United States coming from Russia.  She brings a beautiful conviction to those that photograph her – what better characteristic is needed for a “BoldLifestyle” photo session?!  Danyel Wilkins, Hair and MUA, worked with me on the Tashia Senn shoot a few months ago.  Danyel has the artistic ability of painting faces that allow the eyes to pop and the skin to pristine.  I was surprised to see my co-photographer, Jamil Woods, at the set.  He was really sick a few days before and had to still be feeling the effects of medication and illness.  But he was there, and got some really great video clips as well (video posting soon).  With this team – I was incredibly excited.  I chose the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden as the location for the session primarily due to a friend’s recommendation and because it would best fit the differing looks of the models.   Here are a few images from our Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden set…

    Lavish Looks of Letia Thomas

    I met Letia Thomas, Hair Stylist and Make Up Artist (MUA), on the Tashia Senn Fall/Winter 2010 LookBook shoot a few months ago.  She told me that she was going to contact me about doing some photos for her lookbook.  I was already excited.  One look at Letia and you will know she is all about styling.  Tatted up, blond hair, rocking bold make up – Letia looks like a work of art.  Her concepts are creative and expressive so working with her was much like two pianist playing next to each other.  One of her models, Dominique, I met at a previous event.  Dominique designs shoes for women.  She takes the normal pump and pimps them out resulting in a work of art.  I told Dominique I wanted to photograph her designs a while ago and this shoot allowed me to get a few photos.  Here are a few from the session this past weekend…

    State of Style Fashion Benefit

    I cannot tell you how much of a pleasure it was to be a part of the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce (GWFCC) State of Style Fashion Benefit.  My co-photographer, Jamil Woods, and I were glad to have BoldLifestyle Photography as the headlined – Fashion Photographer of the evening.  Christine Brooks-Cropper and Maggy Francois of GWFCC have always made us feel welcome at their events, so it was really cool to see that they wanted to have us included as part of this particular event. Jeannie Jones, “Kitty of the City” of 93.9 WKYS, hosted the event with her sexy signature “MEOW!” flair and got the fashion show started.  The amazing talent of fashion designers: Tashia Senn, Kenny Flanagan, Abegbemisola Ademisoye, Everetta Edwards and Laura Miller (among others) showcased their designs to the fashion-enthusiasts that filled the nightclub of the District in Adams Morgan.  The clothing was amazing and the models were exquisite!  And for those that do not know or are in denial, Washington DC has fashion talent!  It is here – actually, it’s been here, but now it is less of a whisper – and more of a shout!

    Tashia Senn’s Fall/Winter 2010 LookBook

    Finally, the Tashia Senn Fall/Winter 2010 LookBook is complete!  Yay!!  Man, I truly had a great time working with this impressive and creative group of people.  Check out this “Dream Team” of Fashion Allstars: Jamil Woods (co-photographer), Tashia Senn (designer), Stephanie Pharr (stylist), Letia Thomas (Hair /MUA), Danyel Wilkins (MUA), Oksana (model), Zaya (model), and of course – Jackie Akoko (model).  This project was fun from conception to completion.  Here are a few of the rough drafts from the photo session…

    Teaser from Tashia Senn’s Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

    A few weeks ago, I was thrilled to work with a very talented, fashion prep team for Tashia Senn’s Fall/Winter 2010 Collection.   First let me say –  if you have not heard about Tashia Senn, please check her out because the buzz about her is quickly growing to define her as the next major breakthrough fashion designer – period!  To be so amazingly talented, FIT graduate, Tashia Senn is a very “down-to-earth” person with a tremendous ability to create gorgeous, wearable, head-turning fashion.  I was lucky to have met her when I did as it was an honor to photograph her line.

    Soon, Tashia will release her Fall/Winter Collection LookBook and you will be able to see more of my work in fashion photography.  Until then here are a few teaser images from the editorial portion of her line.
